Golf Places Two in Top-10 After Mason-Dixon Opening Round

WAYNESBORO, PA - The Swarthmore College golf team came in sixth overall after the opening round of the Mason-Dixon Collegiate on Saturday. 

The Garnet upperclassmen led the way with Phelps Wang and Dylan Zhang both sitting inside the top-10 to open action. Wang shot one-under-par for the opening round to tie for sixth place, while Zhang is knotted in ninth place at an even-72.


HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wang carded a 71 (-1) in the opening round to tie for sixth overall. The junior shot three-under on the front nine, carding five birdies - including three-straight to open play. Wang ran into some trouble on the back nine with a pair of bogeys, but still finished under par for the round. 

- Zhang shot an even-72 to tie for ninth overall. The senior tallied three birdies on the front nine to overcome some challenging holes. He then finished the day with a one-under on the back nine with a pair of birdies. 

- Frank Zhou tied for 21st overall with a 75 (+3). The rookie broke even on the front nine with two birdies, but ran into some struggles to end the round. 

- Michael Yuen and Phillip Kim both tied for 48th overall with a 79 (+7). Yuen birdied the first two holes of the round, while Kim added one birdie on the 13th hole. Alex Lyu rounded out the team's competitors with an 81 (+9) to tie for 59th overall.
