Women’s Track & Field Returns to Action in New Year

STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Swarthmore College women's track & field team returned from a month-long absence as they shook off the rust at the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The 4x800 relay of Aaliyah Anaskevich, Olivia Montini, Elizabeth Page and Ania Wong were fifth overall with a time of 9:58.91. 

- Trel Trelstad claimed a top-10 finish in the high jump. The senior cleared the bar at 1.55m on their first attempt to place ninth overall. 

- Tate Garcia earned ninth place in the shot put. The junior missed out on the finals by one spot with a top distance of 11.60m on her final throw. 

- Hannah Garrou finished 13th overall in the 60m dash. The junior raced to an 8.45 finish, which narrowly missed a personal record by a tenth of a second. Garrou also clocked a time of 27.60 in the 200m dash. 

- Lydia Morris-Kliment placed 20th in the long jump with a top effort of 4.86m. Hannah Swale followed closely behind with a 4.76m jump. Swale fell just short of her personal record in the event. 

- Alyson Goldbacher tied for fifth overall in the pole vault with a top height of 2.80m. The first-year cleared the first four marks on the first attempt. 

- Elizabeth Agyei made her season debut in the weight throw with a top distance of 12.43m to finish 17th overall. Agyei was a silver medalist in the event at last year's Centennial Championships. 

- Bella Thoen achieved a significant personal record in the 3000m run with a time of 11:41.47. The sophomore improved her previous best by 25-seconds after setting new personal records in both the 5k and 6k races during cross country season.

The Garnet return to action next weekend at the Widener Winter Evening Invite and the Franklin & Marshall Coach I Invitational.
