GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The No. 21 Swarthmore College men's swimming team completed its domination of the competition and captured its third consecutive Centennial Conference crown on Sunday night at Gettysburg College's Bullets Pool. It is the fifth Centennial title overall in program history, all of which have come since 2017.
The Garnet racked up 948 points over the four-day meet and eclipsed the second-place squad by 238 points. Swarthmore compiled 25 medals on the weekend (12 gold, 12 silver, one bronze).
Sunday's final session was highlighted by
Andrew Karpenko, who picked up his fourth gold medal of the competition, his third in an individual event, with a victory in the 200 breaststroke. He won every individual race he swam in and was chosen the Most Outstanding Performer of the championships for the third year in a row.
Dylan Herink earned his second gold medal of the meet with a win in the 200 backstroke while
Sam Peterson grabbed his first collegiate gold in the 200 butterfly. The Garnet ended the meet in style, taking first in the 400 freestyle relay in the final event of the night.
Danny Castle had the lone record-breaking performance of the evening, taking down the program mark in the 100 freestyle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Karpenko pulled out the win in the 200 breaststroke by just 0.12 seconds. His time of 2:00.68 was a NCAA B cut and is the second-fastest in school history behind only his own mark he set in 2023. The victory upped Karpenko's career medal count at the Centennial Championships to 14 (11 gold, three bronze).
- Herink and
Jacob Sherman captured gold and silver respectively in the 200 backstroke. Their respective times of 1:49.59 and 1:49.71 rank second and third all-time in the program.
- Peterson's winning time of 1:51.87 in the 200 butterfly was the second-best in program history.
Dylan Ling followed Peterson in second to claim the silver with a time of 1:52.76, good for fifth in the record book.
- The team of
Ben Wesley, Castle,
Ethan Marotte, and
Cole Griscavage registered a NCAA B cut time of 3:01.02 to win the 400 freestyle relay. The mark is also the second-fastest in school history. Swarthmore also won the B final with
Benton Greenberg,
Cami Wilson,
Ben Freeman, and
Vijay Chhabra. Their time of 3:04.01 is eighth on the all-time list.
- Castle clocked a program-record 45.15 to grab silver in the 100 freestyle. The rookie ended his first Centennial Championships with an impressive seven medals (three gold, four silver) across three individual events and four relays.

Finn Conaway picked up a bronze medal with his time of 15:58.87 in the 1650 freestyle. He posted the third-best time in program history and placed third in the event for the second straight year.
