Weygandt, Collins Earn Gold on Night Two of Centennial Championships

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The No. 16 Swarthmore College women's swimming team strengthened its grasp on first place as they captured six more medals and three first place finishes on the second night of the Centennial Conference Championships.

Quinn Weygandt knocked off every conference and program record with a remarkable swim in the 200 IM to earn her second-straight gold in the event and third-career individual gold medal. The time currently ranks seventh in the nation after the sophomore shaved three-tenths of a second off her previous best.

Genine Collins also headlined the meet with her first collegiate individual gold medal. The rookie standout beat out defending champion Elle Anthony in the 50 freestyle as both competitors swam to an NCAA B cut. Collins also claimed a championship and program record with her swim.

Swarthmore earned its third gold medal of the night in the 400 medley relay. The time set a new championship, conference, pool and program record. Collins was a member of the relay as she walked away with two gold medals on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kate Hallmark placed second overall in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:02.11. The sophomore standout fell to Ursinus' Missy Leaonard, who captured her third-straight gold medal in the event. Lauren Rohde also swam to a fourth-place finish at 5:06.77, while Ava Craig earned points for the Garnet with a top finish in the B Final at 5:07.30.

- Weygandt took down the conference, championship, program and pool records with a first-place finish in the 200 IM. The sophomore touched the wall at 2:03.38 to beat out Gettysburg's Mia Yancey by less than a second. Her time also bested the NCAA B cut by two seconds. Sophie Rotival medaled in the event with a bronze finish at 2:06.00. The junior narrowly held off a Gettysburg challenger to secure a third-place finish by a few hundredths of a second. Annaliese Chen also competed in the top heat with a fifth-place mark (2:06.85), while Cara Dominici secured more points for the Garnet with a victory in the B Final at 2:07.84.

- Collins and Anthony claimed the top-two spots in the 50 freestyle. Collins touched the wall at 23.11 to beat out the defending champion, who finished at 23.31. Both times were below the NCAA B cut, while Collins' mark topped the previous championship record. Ainsley Jane Tambling (24.31) and Erin Szuromi (24.31) rounded out a quartet of Swarthmore competitors with sixth and seventh place, respectively.

- Swarthmore capped off a successful night with a gold medal in the 400 medley relay. The team of Erin Szuromi, Rotival, Collins and Anthony secured the top position with a record-breaking mark of 3:45.82. The time set a new championship, conference, pool and program record, while also beating the NCAA B cut by over five seconds. The team of Lexi Duffy, Paige Poteet, Ashley Wong and Tambling also took fourth in the event with a time of 3:51.43.

UP NEXT
The Garnet return to the pool tomorrow for the third day of the Centennial Conference Championships. The prelim session begins at 10 a.m. with the evening session scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
