No. 11 Women’s Swimming Earns Two Top Finishes at D3 Shootout Opening Night

CHICAGO - The No. 11 Swarthmore College women's swimming team positioned themselves as one of the top teams against seven nationally-ranked programs at the University of Chicago D3 Shootout on Friday. The Garnet women currently sit in fifth overall and within a few points of a top-three finish.

Swarthmore opened the first night of the invitational with several outstanding swims and a pair of first-place marks. Quinn Weygandt and Annaliese Chen both claimed top finishes, while clocking under the NCAA B cut in their respective events. Elle Anthony also produced an NCAA B cut, while claiming first in the B Final of the 50 freestyle.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Weygandt sat at the top of a competitive field in the 400 IM to lead the top heat. The junior won the event by three seconds with a time of 4:22.61 to finish under last year's NCAA invite time. Weygandt fell just one second short of toppling her program and conference record. She currently holds the fastest mark in Division-III - pending results from this weekend.

- Chen claimed a top finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.26. The senior swam to an NCAA B cut and finished under last year's NCAA invite time to pace the top heat. The time places Chen inside the top-five nationally heading into this weekend's action.

- Anthony also produced an NCAA B cut and finished below last year's NCAA invite time in the 50 freestyle. The junior won the B Final with a time of 23.50, which was the fourth fastest time of the entire event. Genine Collins claimed fourth overall in the event with a time of 23.70 in the A Final. She finished just a couple tenths of a second away from the NCAA B cut. Both swimmers rank among the top competitors in the nation.

- Maya Ambardekar and Weygandt both put together top-10, all-time marks in the 100 backstroke. Ambardekar took sixth overall in the event and moved into third on the program's leaderboard with a time of 57.51. Weygandt raced to a 58.49 finish to climb to seventh in program history.

- Lauren Rohde claimed fifth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.75. The senior finished a few tenths of a second off her personal best. She also put together a strong effort in the 200 butterfly (2:07.63), earning a 12th place finish.

- Sophie Rotival took eighth in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:06.67 mark. Anthony also competed in the event with a 1:06.94 finish.

- The Garnet opened the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Ambardekar, Rotival, Collins and Anthony raced to a 1:45.38 mark to finish in the middle of the pack. Swarthmore then closed the meet with another fifth-place effort in the 800 freestyle relay. The team of Weygandt, Collins, Cara Dominici and Rohde touched the wall at 7:41.55 for the eighth-fastest time in program history.
