Men’s Swimming Remains Unbeaten in Centennial, 10 Different Swimmers Earn Victories

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's swimming team remained unbeaten in Centennial Conference play with a decisive, 216.5-42.5, victory over Dickinson College on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet captured their 16th consecutive conference victory - dating back to the 2021-22 campaign. 

The men showcased its unmatched depth with 10 different swimmers claiming individual victories. Joey Lukner and Dylan Ling were the only multi-winners for Swarthmore with a pair of victories to headline a 14-event sweep. The Garnet swept the top-three finishes in all but three events as they dominated their conference opponent. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- The men set the tone early with a top-three sweep in the opening 200 medley relay. The team of Matvey Ivanov, Andrew Karpenko, Dylan Ling and Ben Wesley claimed the top finish with a 1:36.90 mark. 

- Finn Conaway beat out his teammate Theodore Kim in the 1000 freestyle. Both swimmers raced neck-and-neck for the majority of the event, but the senior was able to edge out the first-year with a time of 10:00.05 to earn the top finish.

- Ben Freeman paced a Garnet trio to lead the 200 freestyle. The senior finished at 1:44.98, while Sam Peterson and Dylan Herink took second and third overall. 

- Joey Lukner took first overall in the 50 backstroke with a 25.08 mark. Will Kilponen and Ivanov followed closely behind with times of 25.46 and 25.52, respectively. Mats McGrath also claimed fourth for the Garnet as the team showcased its incredible depth. 

- Dylan Ling paced a Garnet trio in the 50 breaststroke. The sophomore led the way with a 27.46 mark to narrowly overtake Wesley, who touched the wall at 27.84. Karpenko capped off the Swarthmore top-three finishers with a third place result, while Vijay Chhabra placed fourth. 

- Luke Magnuson impressed with a victory in the 100 butterfly at 52.75. Ethan Marotte and Mateo Smith trailed with times of 53.07 and 54.24 to round out the top-three finishers. Hayden Brown also beat out the Red Devils' top finisher with a fourth-place finish. 

- Danny Castle narrowly beat out a couple of his teammates in a competitive 50 freestyle. Castle touched the wall first at 22.00, while Damian Rene and Benton Greenberg finished less than a second behind with times of 22.45 and 22.49 in a tight finish for runner-up. 

- Chhabra came out in front in an incredibly-tight showdown in the 100 freestyle. The senior touched the wall at 48.29 to edge out Wesley (48.42) and Magnuson (48.95), who both placed within a second of the top spot.  

- Lukner earned his second victory with a 53.66 finish in the 100 backstroke. Castle grabbed a runner-up effort at 54.23 to narrowly beat out a Red Devils third-place finisher. 

- Ling edged out Cole Griscavage in an extremely tight 100 breaststroke. The sophomore finished at 1:00.34 for his second victory, while Griscavage touched the wall at 1:00.44 to earn the runner-up spot. Finn Conaway rounded out a top-three sweep and Herink grabbed fourth for Swarthmore. 

- Peterson earned himself a victory in the 500 freestyle with a 4:55.85 finish. Kim and Smith also clocked under the five-minute mark to claim second and third, respectively. Andrew Hendrickson placed fourth in the event to beat out every Red Devils finisher. 

- Kilponen won the 50 butterfly as he became the ninth different Swarthmore swimmer to win an individual event. The first-year recorded a 24.18 mark to narrowly overtake Marotte, Nick Zuk and Jake Zarak, who all finished within a half-second of each other. 

- Omar Ebied put an exclamation point on an outstanding afternoon as he became the 10th individual to win an event for the men. Ebied took the top spot in the 200 IM at 2:01.04, while Herink tied with Dickinson in second place at 2:01.99. 

- The men closed out the afternoon with a top-three sweep in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Zuk, Ling, Griscavage and Magnuson claimed the top spot with a 1:28.71 effort. 

UP NEXT
The Garnet (6-1, 5-0) return home next weekend with Rowan University and Kean University on Saturday.
