Men's Lacrosse Earns NCAA Tournament At-Large Bid

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 14 Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team was rewarded for their remarkable season with an NCAA Tournament at-large selection, announced on Sunday night.

The program will make its first NCAA Tournament appearance under head coach Pat Gress and their first as a program since 1984. 

After receiving a first-round bye, the Garnet will open the NCAA Tournament versus Grove City College on Saturday, May 13 at Washington & Lee University. The winning team will advance to play the winner of Washington & Lee versus Centre College or Pfeiffer University in Sunday's weekend finale.

First Round - Centre vs. Pfeiffer (Wednesday, 4pm)
Second Round - Washington & Lee vs. first round winner (Saturday, 12pm)
Second Round - Swarthmore vs. Grove City (Saturday, 3pm)
Third Round: second round winners (Sunday, 3pm)

Swarthmore put together one of their most successful seasons in program history as they won a record-setting 14 games. The Garnet enter the tournament with a 14-3 overall record and hold three wins over nationally-ranked opponents. After earning the second seed in the Centennial Championship Tournament, the Garnet advanced to the championship game with a 12-11 victory over No. 7 Gettysburg College in the semifinals. The win marked the team's second victory against nationally-ranked Gettysburg and their fourth one-goal victory of the season. Swarthmore fell to No. 6 Dickinson College, 13-7, in the championship game.

Grove City earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after defeating Saint Vincent, 27-3, in the PAC Championship. The Wolverines have a 10-8 record on the season and were a perfect 7-0 in conference play.  Grove City holds an 0-4 record against ranked opponents - including a 20-10 loss against the host Washington & Lee.

No. 9 Washington & Lee earned an automatic bid after winning the ODAC Championship against No. 11 Lynchburg, 12-11, on Saturday. The Generals enter the tournament with a 16-4 record and hold a 3-3 record versus nationally-ranked opponents. They suffered a 15-9 loss versus Gettysburg College earlier in the season.
