Cantine, Teszler Garner All-American Distinction at NCAA Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Swarthmore College track & field seniors Aidan Cantine and Rose Teszler garnered All-American status with top-eight finishes in their respective events at the NCAA National Championships on Saturday.

Aidan Cantine finished fourth overall in the men's mile with a championship and program record in the event, while Teszler grabbed seventh place in the women's 800m run. Adrian Retter also competed on the day with a 16th place effort in the shot put.

Cantine garnered his first career All-American selection after taking a major leap in his senior season. Cantine, who competed in his first career track & field championship, rebroke his program record with a time of 4:05.36 to claim fourth overall in the event. The senior also broke the old championship record in the mile as he beat his nearest competitor by over a minute. Cantine opened his senior year with an outstanding cross country season where he narrowly missed out on All-American status. The senior will now look to build on his indoor success as he prepares for the outdoor slate.

Teszler's incredible championship run continued as she appeared in her fifth-straight NCAA Championship. The senior was awarded All-American distinction with a seventh place finish in the 800m run. Teszler crossed the finish line at 2:14.95 to earn her first career All-American selection. Yesterday, she placed fifth overall in the prelims with a program record of 2:11.55 - rebreaking her own program record. Teszler entered the championships as the 16th seed as she significantly overperformed her seeding. 

Retter finished 16th overall in the shot put as she appeared in her second-straight indoor championship and third-straight track championship. The senior recorded a top distance of 13.11m on her second throw, while recording marks of 12.74m and 13.07m on her other throws. Retter heads into the outdoor season after receiving All-American status in the discus throw last year.
