Weygandt, Rotival Shatter Records as Women Set Sights on Repeat

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's swimming team maintained their lead on the third night of the Centennial Championships on Saturday. 

Sophie Rotival and Quinn Weygandt both continued to build their case for Most Outstanding Performer. Both individuals earned conference, championship, program and pool records in their respective events while earning NCAA B cuts. 

Erin Szuromi also won an individual gold medal, while the Garnet continued their relay dominance with a victory in the 200 freestyle event. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- The 200 freestyle relay of Elle Anthony, Szuromi, Ainsley Jane-Tambling and Cara Lee opened the evening with a gold medal. The team finished at 1:34.80 to set a championship record, program record and earn an NCAA B cut. 

- For the second-straight night, Weygandt swept through conference and meet records as she blew away the NCAA B cut mark in the 400 IM. After setting a conference record in the prelims, the first-year broke her own record as she touched the wall at 4:27.33. Lauren Rohde was also spectacular in the event as she earned silver with a time of 4:32. 59. 

- Annaliese Chen earned bronze in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.97. Ashley Wong finished behind Chen with a time of 57.15, while Cara Lee also qualified for the top final as she took home seventh place. Jane-Tambling gained more points for the Garnet as she took first overall in the B Final. 

- Kate Hallmark won bronze in the 200 freestyle with a 1:53.31 mark, while Anthony just missed medaling at 1:53.79 to take fourth. Georgi Mathews took fifth in the event at 1:55.20, while Mackenzie Tucker placed eighth overall with a 1:57.59 mark. 

- Rotival took down every record in the 100 breaststroke as she beat the NCAA B Cut standard by two seconds. The sophomore finished at 1:03.42 in the event to earn her second individual medal and first gold medal of the championships. Annabella Boardman also earned an NCAA B cut as she placed second with a time of 1:04.44. Gaby Ma helped gain key points in the event with a seventh place effort. 

- Szuromi won the 100 backstroke with a finals time of 56.58, which came in just over her prelim time of 56.42. The sophomore earned an NCAA B cut in the event after setting a program record in the prelims. Ashley Wong also medaled in the event with a bronze finish at 57.60. Lexi Duffy, Sarah Conley and Kaja Arusha also qualified for the finals. Duffy placed fifth overall at 58.80, while Conley and Arusha were seventh and eighth, respectively.
