Weygandt Headlines Successful Night Two for Women’s Swimming

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's swimming team increased their first place lead on day two of the Centennial Championships on Friday. The Garnet took home three gold medals, two silver medals, two bronze medals and earned three NCAA B cuts on the evening.

Quinn Weygandt put on a show with a historic performance in the 200 IM. The first-year broke the conference, championship, program and pool records while earning an NCAA B cut in the event. Fellow first-year Elle Anthony was also outstanding in the 50 freestyle as she earned an NCAA B cut and pool record in the event. The Garnet swept the top-three finishes in the 50 freestyle.
 


HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kate Hallmark opened the evening with a silver medal in the 500 freestyle. After qualifying as the top seed in the event, the first-year took home second place with a program record of 4:57.95. Lauren Rohde and Olivia Stoetzer also qualified for the finals as they finished fourth and seventh, respectively. 

- Weygandt stole the show in the 200 IM with a record shattering mark of 2:04.96. The first-year's time set a new conference, championship, program and pool record. Sophie Rotival also medaled in the event with a time of 2:07.21 to earn bronze, while Annaliese Chen qualified for the finals with a seventh place effort. Gaby Ma also earned key points for the Garnet with a victory in the B Final. Weygandt was the first Swarthmore women's swimmer to win the event since 2012.

- The Garnet swept all medals in the 50 freestyle. Anthony led the charge with a first place effort at 23.45 to set a new program record and earn an NCAA B cut. Erin Szuromi followed with a silver medal at 23.88, while Ainsley Jane-Tambling rounded out the medalists with a 24.12 mark. 

- The women wrapped up a successful evening with a gold medal in the 400 medley relay. The team of Szuromi, Rotival, Ashley Wong and Jane-Tambling touched the wall at 3:47.77 to set a new program record and earn an NCAA B cut. The Garnet also won the B Final with a 3:52.25 finish from Kaja Arusha, Annabella Boardman, Chen and Hallmark. The team's B relay recorded the second fastest time in the entire field.
