CHICAGO – The No. 17 Swarthmore College women's swimming team took on top competition from across Division III at the D3 Shootout held at the University of Chicago on Friday and Saturday.
The Garnet placed sixth in the team scoring. All six of the other competing squads are also currently ranked in the CSCAA Top 25 Poll.
Quinn Weygandt and
Genine Collins led Swarthmore, each recording three top-five finishes. Weygandt produced a NCAA B cut time in the 400 IM.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Weygandt took third in the 400 IM with a time of 4:26.74, which was just 0.01 seconds off her school and Centennial Conference record set last season. She also placed third in the 500 freestyle (5:07.08) and she was fourth in the 200 IM (2:07.44). Weygandt swam on Swarthmore's 800 freestyle relay that came in fifth (7:48.52).
- Collins posted the highest finish of a Garnet athlete on the weekend, touching second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.71. She was just 0.17 seconds off the winning time and 0.14 away from the NCAA B cut. Collins also had a third place in the 100 free (52.26) and she finished fifth in the 100 butterfly (56.79). Collins was a member of the Garnet's fourth-place 200 freestyle relay (1:35.80) as well as the 800 free relay.

Sophie Rotival placed in the top five in a pair of individual events. The junior came in third in the 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:04.92. She was also fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.83). Rotival was part of the 400 medley relay that finished fourth (3:52.61) as well as the 200 free relay.

Annaliese Chen and
Erin Szuromi each earned a top-five placement on the weekend. Chen touched the wall fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:06.86) while Szuromi took fourth place in the 100 backstroke (57.98). Both athletes swam on the 400 medley relay with Szuromi also competing on the 200 freestyle relay.
