SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Baseball was selected to participate in the 2022 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament as part of the Rochester (NY) Regional. The Garnet will travel to the University of Rochester, as they compete in the double elimination regional tournament event.
Swarthmore will take on nationally ranked, No. 1 Eastern Connecticut State University in the first game on May 20th at 11:00 a.m. Game two will feature the host, University of Rochester against Middlebury College at 2:30 p.m. The NCAA announced a playoff field of 60 teams. The Rochester Regional is one of 14 four-team pods playing a double elimination format. There are two two-team pods who will play a best three of five series. The survivors from this week will be placed into eight super-regionals (best two of three) next week. The winners of the super regionals will play in the NCAA Finals at Perfect Game Field in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from June 3rd-8th, 2022.

Swarthmore will represent the Centennial Conference as they finished the 2022 campaign with 22-17 overall record and 14-4 in Centennial Conference play. Led by Centennial Player of the Year,
Luke Mutz, the Garnet will make their third all-time appearance (1985; 2018) in the NCAA Tournament. In their last appearance, Swarthmore won the New York Region as they went on to their first College World Series in program history.
Eastern Connecticut State University will represent the Little East Conference as the automatic qualifier. The Warriors, ranked No. 1 in the latest D3baseball.com poll, finished the season with a 39-3 record. In the Little East Championship game, the Warriors defeated UMass-Dartmouth by a score of 16-1.
Rochester, an at-large bid out of the Liberty League, enters the NCAA Tournament with a 31-11 record. The Yellowjackets fell to Ithaca College, 18-5, in the Liberty League Championship game.
Middlebury, the automatic bid for the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), enters with a 29-12 record from the 2022 campaign. The Panthers defeated Hamilton College, 12-8, in the winner take all game.
