WESTMINSTER, MD - The Swarthmore College baseball team split its season finale against McDaniel College on Sunday afternoon, dropping the opener 12-9 before bouncing back with a dominant 11-2 win in game two. Despite the victory, the Garnet were eliminated from postseason contention due to a three-way tie for the final two spots.
The Garnet raced out to a hot start with a six-run second inning in the opener, but were unable to shut down the Green Terror offense. McDaniel ended the game with five-unanswered runs while keeping Swarthmore off the board for the last five innings.Â
Swarthmore flipped the script in game two with a dominant performance from start to finish. The Garnet batted around for four runs in the opening frame and never looked back. Jackson Garnecki was excellent on the bump, logging six innings with just one run allowed. Gavin Rigby then shut the door with three stellar innings to preserve the lead.Â
