Indianapolis, Ind. - Swarthmore College Men's Swimming sophomore
Andrew Karpenko collected his third All-America honor of the week on Saturday as he closed out competition at the 2022 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving National Championships.
In the 200-breast, Karpenko claimed his third All-America accolade by swimming a time of 1:59.64 for a 14th finish. He is the first student-athlete to swim a sub-two minute time in the 200-breast in both Swarthmore and Centennial Conference history. In the prelims, the sophomore finished in 14th place with a time of 2:00.18. The prelim time broke a Swarthmore and Centennial Conference record held by the sophomore All-American. He is the only three-time individual All-American in men's swimming history.
On Friday night, the sophomore finished the 100 breaststroke in ninth place with a time of 54.26 in the finals. In the preliminary round, Karpenko swam a 54.52 to earn the ninth seed heading into the finals of the night session. Prior to Saturday's session, he set three individual records in the 50-breast (25.29), 100-breast (54.12) and 200-breast (2:00.61).
Karpenko finishes the season as a three-time All-American, and the Most Outstanding Performer and Most Outstanding Rookie Performer at the Centennial Conference Championships. He joins
Ted Sherer as the only male to earn two individual All-America honors in the same season. Sherer accomplished that feat in the 100-breast and 200-breast in the 2000 campaign.
