GETTYSBURG, Pa.—No. 21 Swarthmore College Women's Swimming wrapped up the 2020 Centennial Conference Championship in second place with 856 points, just 31.5 points behind host Gettysburg College.
Over the course of the championship, Swarthmore won seven gold medals and had NCAA B cuts in six events.
On Sunday night, Swarthmore opened with the longest race in collegiate swimming, the 1,650 free, and won the event. Junior Hannah Kloetzer brought home the gold medal in 17:33.02 and earned 20 points for Swarthmore. Freshman Liv Stoetzer claimed fourth with a time of 18:13.99. Abby Goodman earned a place on the podium with a time of 18:30.34.
In the 200 backstroke, freshman Alex Comaniciu led Swarthmore with a time of 2:09.76 for sixth place. Senior Stephanie Tilneac took eighth place. Selina Ye led the 200 back consolation final with a time of 2:10.48. Johanna Schubert registered a time of 2:11.94 for 11th.
Anna Lyn added another medal, this time a bronze one, in the 100 free. She had a time of 52.54 seconds and was the first of four Swarthmore women to reach the wall in the championship final heat of the 100 free. Sayaka Vaules took fifth, Anna Kottakis sixth and Ella Yadav seventh.
Sophia Lee clocked a time of 2:27.79 to finish fourth overall in the 200 breaststroke. Annabella Boardman came in close behind at 2:28.10 for fifth, and less than a second later, fellow freshman Gaby Ma hit the wall at 2:28.70. Kyla Hallam and Daniela Kim added points for Swarthmore in the consolation final, taking 10th and 12th places, respectively.
Liz Gallagher claimed silver in the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.55. Alyssa Berman took 12th in 2:15.60.
The Garnet wrapped up the championship with a gold-medal performance in the 400 free relay. Lyn, Kottakis, Vaules and Yadav each had splits shorter than 53 seconds en route to a combined time of 3:29.41 and an NCAA B cut.
With four relay teams and two individuals earning B cuts, the Garnet have their sights set on sending several swimmers to nationals this year.
