Six Make All-Conference, Midkiff Coach Of The Year

LANCASTER, Pa.--Six Swarthmore College Baseball Players were featured on the 2018 All-Centennial Conference teams that were released on Tuesday morning.

On top of that, head coach Matt Midkiff was named Coach of the Year. In his sixth season leading the Garnet, the team has won 32 games, which is five more than the program's previous high set in 1985.

Sophomores Sawyer Lake and Jack Corkery as well as juniors Charlie Levitt and Jackson Roberts made the first team.

Sophomore Cole Beeker earned second-team honors, junior Ricky Conti was an honorable mention, and sophomore Terell Dale won a sportsmanship award.

Lake had a 5-1 record with a 2.89 ERA in 10 pitching appearances that included nine starts this season. He struck out 57 batters in 53 innings. Among Centennial pitchers, Lake was fifth in ERA and strikeouts as well as tied for third in wins.

Corkery had the most saves in the conference with seven. He allowed just eight hits in 18 innings, striking out 21 batters.

Levitt and Roberts tied with four others for the conference lead with a Swarthmore-record eight home runs this season. Levitt's 43 runs scored were the most in the conference, and he was third with a .593 slugging percentage. He was hit by a conference-best 18 pitches this season. As Swarthmore's left fielder, Levitt did not make a single error in 54 chances. He was eighth in the Centennial with 33 RBIs and a .441 on-base percentage. He also stole 11 bases.

Roberts, the team's designated hitter, had the best slugging percentage in the conference at .659. His .377 average was second best. He had 37 RBIs which ranked third, and he was fourth with 13 doubles.

Beeker, the first baseman, has set a Garnet record with 57 RBIs this season, which is 11 more than the previous record set by Tim Kwilos in 2012. No one else in the conference has more than 43 this season. He's second in the conference with 60 hits, brining his average to .351. Six of his hits were home runs, slotting him seventh in the conference. His 336 putouts were 53 more than anyone else in the conference, and he only recorded two errors, making his fielding percentage .995.

Conti set a Swarthmore record and led the conference with 10 wins on the mound this year. No one else in the Centennial had more than six. His 74 innings were also the most in the conference. He was second in the conference with a 2.07 ERA. He led Swarthmore starters with a .197 batting average against.
