LANCASTER, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Swimming had its best finish since the 2008 season, taking second-place in the four-day 2017-18 Centennial Conference Championship.
The Garnet entered Sunday in second place, unable to catch the eventual champion Ursinus who finished with 929 points, a new Centennial Conference record. The Garnet accumulated 603 points in the weekend and held off Gettysburg who finished third with 532 points.
Maggie Eberts and Hannah Kloetzer added silver medals to their collections on Sunday. Kloetzer swam to an NCAA Division III B Cut time of 17:18.18 in the 1,650-yard long-distance race.
Eberts swam the 200 breaststroke in 2:24.32, and teammates Liz Staton and Sophia Lee also finished in the top eight of that event. Staton claimed fourth place (2:25.60) and Lee took eighth (2:32.09). Freshman Jenna Bowman finished in 10th place.
In the 200 back, Hyeyun Chae finished fifth (2:07.97), and Emily Bley came in 10th (2:10.11).
Swarthmore's two finalists in the 100 free finished ninth, Sayaka Vaules, and 16th, Sophie Moody.
Clare Cushing added 12 more Garnet points with a seventh-place finish in the 200 fly and Sarah Solomon added six points with an 11th-place showing.
The Garnet wrapped up the championship in the 400 free relay with fourth place and 10th place.
After concluding the season in second in the conference, the Garnet will look to come back even stronger next season as they attempt to knock off the defending champion Ursinus Bears.
