LANCASTER, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Swimming won three more golds in the final night of the four-day Centennial Conference Championship and finished in second place with a total of 543.5 points. Garnet freshman Alec Menzer received the conference's Outstanding Rookie Performer award at the end of the night.
Swarthmore held on to its spot as the runner up and finished 26.5 points ahead of third-place Washington College. Gettysburg claimed the crown with 759.5 points.
In Sunday night's action, junior Michael Lutzker won gold in the grueling 1,650-yard freestyle. He won by nearly an entire lap with an NCAA Division III B Cut time of 15:48.19, and had more than 23 seconds to spare before the second-place finisher arrived to the wall.
Chris Smith and Jeffrey Tse went one-and-two in the 200 breaststroke. Smith took the top prize in 2:04.87 and Tse clocked in at 2:05.43.
In the 200 fly, Menzer made it clear why he should be selected as the league's top rookie, winning the event in 1:51.88, a new conference and championship record.
Swarthmore won the bronze medal in the 400 free. Menzer, Charles Yang, Smith and Tse combined for a time of 3:04.41. Swarthmore's second team of Ben Hsiung, Carlo Sivilotti, Alejandro Hernandez and Henry Wilson finished second in their heat with a time of 3:09.23.
The Garnet added some points in the 200 back B heat. Gabe Caldwell finished in 12th, Nigel Van Ha came in 15th and Arka Rao came in 16th.
Henry Wilson added five points in the 100 free with a time of 47.49 seconds and Carlo Sivilotti was right there for four more points with a time of 47.64. Alejandro Hernandez, Jerry Gu, Steven Chen and Luke Wang added points in the B heat of the 200 breaststroke, and Jeffrey Mun scored three points in the 200 fly.
Garnet swimmers will now wait to find out if any of their NCAA B Cut times were good enough to qualify for the NCAA Championship.
