BOX SCOREFREDERICKSBURG, Va – The No. 31 Swarthmore College men's tennis team (3-5) notched two wins en route to a 7-2 loss against #23 Bates on Friday, March 18 on the campus of University of Mary Washington.
The Garnet earned one point in doubles play, as junior
John Larkin and sophomore
Blake Oetting teamed up at No. 3 to defeat Josh Leiner and Josh Quijano by a score of 8-5.
In singles action, only two matches were decided in straight sets. At No. 4, freshman
Simon Vernier pushed his match to three; Vernier edged Brent Feldman, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Larkin, sophomore
Ari Cepelewicz, and classmate
Josh Powell also challenged their opponents in three sets, but ultimately fell at the No. 2, 3, and 6 positions, respectively.
Swarthmore will play its first Centennial Conference match next Wednesday, March 23 against Ursinus College at 4:00 p.m.
