FREDERICKSBURG, Va. and PHILADELPHIA – The Swarthmore College men's tennis team continued play at the ITA Regional Tournament on Friday while other members of the squad started competition at the Saint Joseph's Invitational.

Nikola Galov and
Rishi Verma both earned a pair of wins to advance to the quarterfinals in the singles bracket. Galov cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Haverford College in the Round of 32. The sophomore then took care of business in the Round of 16, 6-4, 6-1 against Johns Hopkins University. Galov draws University of Mary Washington in the quarters.
- Meanwhile, Verma won both of his bouts in straight sets to reach the final eight. He defeated Franklin and Marshall College, 6-3, 6-2, before taking down Mary Washington, 6-2, 6-3. Verma battles Johns Hopkins in the quarterfinals.
- Doubles play commenced on Friday with three Garnet teams moving on.

Dylan Hayes Gilbert won two matches, topping Washington College 8-3 and Batten University 8-4, to advance to the Round of 16. The duo will take on Carnegie Mellon University.
- After receiving first-round byes, the pairs of
Kai Chen/
Seth Sadikov and Galov/
Connor Chun both won their lone match of the day to reach the final 16. Chen/Sadikov downed Johns Hopkins 8-6 while Galov/Chun bested Haverford 8-5. Both teams will take on players from Mary Washington next.
- The pair of
Aadhi Raja/
Cameron Samek earned an opening-round 8-3 win against Goucher College before bowing out in the Round of 32. After advancing on Thursday, Gilbert, Sadikov, and
Fate MacAlasdair were all eliminated from singles contention in the Round of 32.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Francis Thoresen opened with a victory in the Grey bracket, defeating Division I Lafayette College 6-3, 6-0. He battles Division I Villanova University in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
- In the Black bracket,
Haozhe Jiang won his opening set 6-3 before his opponent from Division II Thomas Jefferson University was forced to retire due to injury. Jiang takes on Lafayette in the quarters.

Akshay Kommineni was also victorious to begin play in the White bracket. He bested Haverford, 6-0, 6-1, to move on to a quarterfinal match versus Division I Saint Joseph's University.
