BOX SCORESEATTLE, Wash.-To conclude its spring break campaign, the No. 30 Swarthmore College men's tennis team (3-4) faced Seattle University on Thursday, March 10. The Garnet nearly mounted a comeback against the Division I opponent, but ultimately fell by a score of 4-3.
Beginning with singles play, the Redhawks took matches at the No. 3, 4, and 5 positions. Swarthmore then answered with wins at No. 1, 2, and 6. Junior
John Larkin first defeated John Stormans, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2, and sophomore
Mark Fallati followed with a convincing 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1 over Ian Clare. Tying the match with a win at No. 6, freshman
James Hahn overcame a first-set deficit to edge Matt Alderson, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Having split points in singles action, the Garnet men needed to win two of the next three matches to secure the one team point awarded in doubles play. Fallati and classmate
Josh Powell kept their set close at No. 1, but lost to Tanner Berkabile and Michael Schoettler, 5-7, as Seattle went on to sweep all three doubles matches.
Swarthmore resumes competition on
Friday, March 18 against No. 21 Bates College in Fredericksburg, Va.
