Men's Tennis to Host Opening Rounds of NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – Swarthmore College has been selected to host the first three rounds of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament this weekend as announced by the NCAA on Monday. The Garnet will serve as a host for the second time in three years.

Swarthmore received a first-round bye and will take on the winner of the matchup between Allegheny College and Penn State Behrend on Saturday. Carnegie Mellon University and Washington and Lee University also earned first-round byes and will face each other in the other second-round matchup.

Saturday's second-round winners will meet in the third round on Sunday. All match times for the weekend will be confirmed later this week. Sunday's victor will move on to the national quarterfinals at Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee on May 18-26.

Swarthmore (20-6) earned an automatic bid by winning its fourth straight Centennial Conference title. It is the Garnet's 28th NCAA Tournament appearance. Swarthmore is currently ranked seventh in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Last year, the Garnet advanced to the Round of 16 before falling to eventual national champion Denison University.

Allegheny (17-7) captured its fourth Presidents' Athletic Conference title in a row. It is also the Gators' fourth NCAA Tournament appearance. Penn State Behrend (18-4) earned an automatic bid from the Atlantic East Conference. It is the Nittany Lions' third trip to NCAAs, the first since 2022.

Carnegie Mellon (14-5) received an at-large bid out of the University Athletic Association after placing fourth in the conference tournament. The Tartans are making their 10th NCAA Tournament appearance, their first since 2021. They are currently ranked eighth in the nation by the ITA. Washington and Lee (12-10) won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title and is making its 31st trip to the national tourney.
