Men's Tennis Improves to No. 7 in ITA National Ranking

GILBERT, Ariz. – The Swarthmore College men's tennis team climbed one spot to No. 7 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Ranking.

The Garnet grabbed a big 4-3 victory at then-No. 7 Johns Hopkins University on Sunday to earn their jump in the ranking. Michael Melnikov, Max Lindstrom, Andres Fente, and Dylan Hayes Gilbert were all victorious in singles action while Fente teamed with Kai Chen for a doubles win. Gilbert recorded the decisive point, pulling out a three-set triumph at sixth singles.

Melnikov improved to an impressive 30-3 in singles matches this year. Swarthmore has shown tremendous depth this season with eight other players having double-digit singles wins, including Lindstrom (19), Nikola Galov (16), and Lalith Suresh (15) with 15-plus victories. Fente and Chen have been magnificent as the Garnet's second doubles pair, holding a 21-4 record to lead the squad.
