GETTYSBURG, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Swimming closed out the first half of the 2016-17 season at the Gettysburg College invite on Friday and Saturday, The Garnet had a good opportunity to compete against six schools in a championship-style meet.
Sophomore
Liz Staton crushed her personal best in the 200-yard breaststroke by nearly five seconds and broke a 20-year-old school record with a time of 2:23.82. She also recorded a new personal best in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.83) and moved up to the third-best time in program history in that event. Her time of 25 seconds flat was a new personal best in the 100 freestyle.
Scout Clark, a sophomore, notched personal bests in the 1650 freestyle (18:39.68), the 200 backstroke (2:12.10) and the 500 freestyle (5:20.27). Classmate
Sophie Moody swam personal bests in the 100 and 200 freestyle with times of 54.65 and 2:01.13, respectively.
Freshman
Clare Cushing posted Swarthmore's third-best program time in the 500 freestyle (5:11.65).
The Garnet 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams both cracked the Garnet all-time top-10 times lists. The 200 medley team of
Selina Ye, Staton,
Ashley Hwang and
Sayaka Vaules recorded the school's fifth fastest time (1:49.49). The 400 freestyle relay team of Moody, Vaules, Hwang and Cushing recorded a time of 3:38.51 for the school's seventh-fastest mark.
Swarthmore has wrapped up its competition slate for the fall and is now preparing for a winter break training trip in Puerto Rico.
