Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford scored 10 unanswered goals over a span of three quarters to record a 14-8 comeback victory over the Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team on Saturday, Apr. 25 at Swan Field.
Swarthmore got off to a hot start and outscored the Fords 4-2 in the first quarter, which was capped by a man-up goal by senior
Grayson Roze off a pass from classmate
Andrew Preiser. The Garnet picked right up where they left off to start the second by getting markers from
Braeden DeWan and
Conor Clark to move ahead 6-2, but the Fords stormed back and took over from there.
Tav Hafner started the rally by netting the first of 10 consecutive Ford goals at the 8:43 mark of the second and also scored again to make it 6-5 at the break. Haverford continued its comeback by getting unassisted markers from three different players to pull ahead for good in the third, and the hot streak continued into the fourth as Patrick Girard fired home an unassisted marker with 10:07 on the clock to make it 12-6.
Will Black finally put the Garnet back on the board with 7:43 remaining in regulation and
Cam Marsh scored 25 seconds later to create a four-goal deficit, but that was as close as the Garnet would come the rest of the way. The Fords scored two more times to run away with the six-goal triumph.
Haverford outshot Swarthmore 36-24 and won the ground game by the same margin. The Fords also took 14 of the 25 face-offs and got four goals and two assists from Geoff Geppert. Swarthmore was paced by Preiser, who finished with a game-high four assists.
Eric Callendo earned the victory between the pipes for the Fords by making 10 saves. The Garnet's
Cole Fox suffered the loss after redirecting 11 shots.
Swarthmore (6-8, CC 1-7) will wrap up its 2015 campaign when it hosts Vassar on Wednesday, Apr. 29 at 7 p.m.
