Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to McDaniel on Thursday, Apr. 2 at Clothier Field. The Green Terror won the opener by an 8-0 score in six innings before taking the nightcap by a 14-6 decision.
In the opener, McDaniel (12-6, CC 4-0) scored two runs in the top of the first before adding insurance tallies in the fifth and sixth to win due to the eight-run rule. Swarthmore got its only hit of the game off the bat of senior
Chelsea Matzko in the fourth before Jamie Weisser hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 in the fifth. McDaniel scored four times in the sixth, which was capped by an RBI single by Taylor Fletcher, to earn the victory.
Caroline Brehm hurled a one-hit shutout for McDaniel to improve her record to 9-4 overall. She struck out eight and did not issue a walk. Freshman
Mary Olesnavich suffered the loss and dropped to 2-2 after surrendering eight runs, including five earned, and 13 hits. She also fanned seven and issued just one walk.
McDaniel took control of the nightcap and built up an 8-0 advantage at the midway point, but Swarthmore responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth to get back in it. Senior

Emily Bowman and Olesnavich all had RBI singles, and the Garnet plated two by taking advantage of a pair McDaniel errors while trying to get runners out at home.
The Green Terror, however, recovered from their only bad inning of the afternoon by scoring four times in the top of the fifth to pull away. Taylor Hishon, who went 4-for-4 in the game with two doubles, blasted a two-run single to center in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Weisser earned the victory in the circle for McDaniel despute surrendering nine hits and six runs, which were all earned, over 4.1 frames. Freshman
Frankie Ponziani of Swarthmore was tagged with the loss after giving up six hits and six runs in three innings of work.
Swarthmore (4-8, CC 0-4) hosts Franklin & Marshall for a twinbill on Saturday, Apr. 4 at 1 p.m.
