CARLISLE, Pa. – Despite getting a career-high four goals from freshman Matt Johnson, the Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-5 decision to Dickinson on Saturday, Apr. 18 at Biddle Field.
 
Dickinson (5-8, CC 3-3), which was coming off a 9-1 win over Washington College, once again utilized a suffocating defense to defeat the Garnet. Dating back to their last game, the Red Devil back line went nearly 96 minutes without allowing a goal by blanking the Shoremen in the second, third and fourth quarters in their last game before keeping Swarthmore off the board until the fourth quarter.
 
The hosts opened the game on an 8-0 run, which was capped by a man-down goal scored by Jake Harrington with 11:10 remaining in regulation. Swarthmore, however, fought back got on the board less than two minutes later when freshman Matt Johnson found the back of the net, marking the first time the Red Devils yielded a goal in 95:55. Johnson then finished a pass from senior Andrew Preiser, and freshman Cam Marsh followed with Swarthmore's third straight marker with 5:24 left to make it 8-3.
 
Johnson would net two more goals in the waning minutes, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Paul Anderson caused a turnover on the defensive end to give the Red Devils possession until the clock ran out.
 
Dickinson's Nick Baxter picked up the win between the pipes by making nine saves and allowing only two goals in nearly 53 minutes of action. Sophomore Cole Fox turned away 13 shots in the losing effort for the Garnet.
 
Swarthmore (6-6, CC 1-5) will play its final home game of the season when it hosts Washington College on Wednesday, Apr. 22 at 7 p.m.
