Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Sophomore pitcher Aidan Miller of the Swarthmore College baseball team threw the first Garnet no-hitter since Steve Farneth '00 achieved the feat in 1997, but Swarthmore fell 1-0 to homestanding Washington College on Sunday, Apr. 12 for the team's fourth consecutive loss.

The righty struck out six and walked three in eight innings of work, but picked up his first loss of the season. Miller's no-no is also the 13th in Centennial Conference history and the first solo since Zach Jones of McDaniel tossed a no-hitter on March 9, 2013.

Swarthmore (16-8, CC 4-6) knocked six hits over nine innings, but John Lim's double in the fourth frame was the only extra-base hit for the Garnet.

The back-and-forth game remained scoreless for seven innings, although the Shoremen had a promising opportunity in the bottom of the sixth with a man on third and only one out. Miller escaped the jam and kept the game deadlocked by striking out the next batter and fielding a grounder to end the inning.

Washington College scored the decisive run in the bottom of the eighth after a two-out throwing error allowed a runner to score from third. In the ninth, Swarthmore managed to put Ryan Burnett, who finished with two hits, at second base with only one out, but a subsequent groundout and fly out clinched the game for the Shoremen.

Swarthmore looks to break its four-game skid when it travels to Muhlenberg on Tuesday, Apr. 14 for a game at 3:30 p.m.
