Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Freshman Cam Marsh factored into four goals, including three in the fourth quarter, to lead the Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team to a 13-9 victory over Misericordia on Saturday, March 28 at Clothier Field. With the score tied at 8-8 late in the third, the Garnet scored two man-up goals on a non-releasable Cougar penalty to pick up their sixth win in their last seven games.
Misericordia (4-4) got off to a hot start and scored four goals in the first quarter, which was capped by a man-up marker by Andrew Reynolds with 1:25 on the clock. The goal gave the Cougars an early three-goal cushion by the end of the frame.
Swarthmore, however, fought back for the second straight game and jumped ahead by outscoring the visitors by a count of 7-1 in the second. The Garnet used balanced scoring to rattle off six unanswered over a span of 4:56 and got three helpers from senior
Andrew Preiser during the stretch. Junior
Will Black finished a pass from freshman
Sam Sokota with 14 seconds left to give the hosts an 8-5 lead at the break.
The Cougars were able to tie the score at 8-all with 2:20 left in the third, but shortly afterwards, Alec Kellish was assessed a non-releasable, two-minute penalty for an illegal check to the head. The dangerous play would prove to be costly for the visitors as well as the turning point of the game.
The Garnet capitalized twice on Kellish's penalty while playing a man-up, as
Ian Lukaszewicz scored before the end of the third and freshman
Matt Johnson scored just eight seconds into the fourth to make it 10-8. Marsh then scored two straight goals and set up an insurance marker on an empty net with 1:38 left to seal the four-goal win for the Garnet.
