BOX SCOREGAMBIER, Ohio - The 30th-ranked Swarthmore College men's tennis team (5-3) picked up a non-conference win against No. 25 DePauw University by a score of 6-3 on
Saturday, March 21.
At No. 1 doubles, freshmen
Mark Fallati and
Ari Cepelewicz beat Eric Vannatta and Alec Kaczkowski by an 8-5 score. Both Fallati and Cepelewicz would go on to win their singles matches at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
Losing his first set in a tiebreak, Fallati rallied to beat Kaczkowski in three sets, 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-2, while Cepelewicz edged out Dan Rodefeld by a score of 7-6(5), 6-4.
Claiming their match at No. 3 to give Swarthmore a 2-1 lead after doubles play,
Josh Powell and
Thomas Vernier overcame Patrick Farrell and Harold Martin, 8-5.
Bouncing back from a loss at No. 2 doubles, sophomore
John Larkin and freshman
Blake Oetting both secured wins in singles competition. Larkin battled at No. 1 to defeat Chris Bertolini, 7-6(9), 6-1, and Oetting took his No. 4 match in three sets against Farrell, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2.
The Garnet men look to earn their third straight win as they take on eighth-ranked Kenyon College
