Morgan Langley '11 Signs Professional Contract to Play in Ireland

Morgan Langley '11, one of Swarthmore's most prolific offensive players in program history, has signed to play for St. Patrick's Athletic in Ireland.

DUBLIN, Ireland - Former Swarthmore College standout men's soccer player Morgan Langley has been signed to play for St. Patrick's Athletic of Dublin in the League of Ireland Premier Division.

According to the club, "St Patrick's Athletic are pleased to announce the signing of Hawaiian midfielder Morgan Langley subject to international clearance who joins the club from American club Harrisburg City Islanders.  The 25 year old who hails from Honolulu has previous experience in the MLS in America with Philadelphia Union, [and] joins on the back of four productive years with Harrisburg having scored 15 goals and 12 assists to his name.  Prior to his spell with the Islanders, Langley had a successful spell with Swarthmore College, where in 2010, he scored 14 goals and recorded 14 assists in a year that saw him claim the prestigious Centennial Conference Player of the Year award as well as being voted onto the league's 'Team of the Year'."

St. Patrick's is Langley's third professional club, and his first overseas.  Langley, an economics major from the Iolani School in Hawaii, set Swarthmore's career points record with 95 on 34 goals and 27 assists. He helped the Garnet reach the NCAA Tournament three straight seasons (2008-10) and win the Centennial Championship in 2008 and 2010. In 2010, Langley was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association's All-America Team as well as the Centennial Conference Player of the Year. He was also named All-Centennial in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

After his senior season in 2010, Langley was invited to the Philadelphia Union's tryout camp, from which he was signed to play for Harrisburg, the Union's USL affiliate. Langley impressed throughout his rookie season, and was called up to the Union after helping the City Islanders to the USL final. The Union gave Langley his MLS debut on Sept. 17, 2011 when Philadelphia hosted the Columbus Crew. Langley played the final 10 minutes in the Union's 1-0 victory, securing a playoff place for the first time in club history.

After injury-shortened seasons in 2012 and 2013, Langley had his best professional season for the City Islanders in 2014 by leading the team in scoring with six goals and six assists en route to the USL final once again, where they ultimately lost to Sacramento.  Langley made the USL season highlight reel, scoring twice, the second from behind midfield against Dayton in May of last season.

Upon arriving in Dublin, Langley will join St. Patrick's and could potentially feature in their match today against the Bray Wanderers.
