FREDERICKSBURG, Md. - The Swarthmore College men's tennis team competed in the ITA Southeast Regional tournament over the weekend at the University of Mary Washington to conclude the fall season. Eight players represented the Garnet.
Junior
John Larkin and sophomore
Mark Fallati both reached the round of 16 in the championship singles draw. Sixth-seed Larkin defeated Matthew Miles of the University of Mary Washington 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, before handling Franklin & Marshall's Zack Levin in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Ninth-seed Fallati notched a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Alexander Cragg of UMW and went on to beat William Trang of Christopher Newport University by an identical score.
Freshman
Simon Vernier recorded a championship singles victory with a first round 6-2, 6-2 win over Nicholas Garcia of Johns Hopkins University. In doubles action, Vernier paired with classmate
Evan Han, but the duo lost narrowly to Colin Muraika and Rodrigo Saad of JHU, 7-6(5).
Sophomore
Josh Powell and freshman
James Hahn also competed, teaming up for a 9-7 triumph over Evan Davis and Joey Frank of Dickinson College. Hahn then reached the semifinals in the Blue 1 singles draw, defeating opponents Muraika and Harrison Elbert of Haverford.
Swarthmore resumes competition on
