COMPLETE RESULTSFredericksburg, Va. - The Swarthmore College men's tennis team opened its fall season with the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament held this weekend at the University of Mary Washington.
Freshman
Ari Cepelewicz won his first round match in the championship singles draw, defeating Catholic University's Juan Lorido 6-3, 1-6, 6-0. Cepelewicz later teamed up with classmate
Mark Fallati in championship doubles play to earn another first round victory, edging out Joel Lankford and Matt Seifert of Carnegie Mellon by a score of 8-6.
Sophomore
Thomas Vernier and senior
Harrison Lands both reached the semifinals of their respective draws. Vernier convincingly defeated Mike Cannon of Elizabethtown 6-4, 6-2, before dominating Michael Dodd of Christopher Newport 6-2, 6-2. Lands had a decisive win against Albright's Matt Muoio 6-1, 6-2 and then prevailed over Caleb Kramer of Ursinus 6-1, 7-6(5).
Junior
Matt Hirsh, sophomore
John Larkin, and freshmen
Blake Oetting and
Yosuke Higashi also competed in the tournament, but fell to opponents in championship singles play. Freshmen
Bryan Cheun and
Michael Song paired with Higashi and Oetting, respectively, but were also defeated in their championship doubles matches.
The Garnet will now use the offseason to prepare for conference competition, which resumes in the spring.
