Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – Johns Hopkins scored twice in the second half and converted a direct kick in the 93rd minute to earn a 3-2 overtime victory over the 25th-ranked Swarthmore College men's soccer team on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Homewood Field.
Swarthmore (6-2-1, CC 0-2) got on the board first shortly before halftime by capitalizing on a free kick from outside of the box. After the initial shot went off a wall of Hopkins defenders, freshman
Marc Geschwind collected the rebound and fired the ball to the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 edge that they would take into the break.
The offenses took over in the second half, beginning with a strike by junior
David Geschwind to double the Garnet advantage on a corner kick in the 58th minute.
Billy Evers sailed a cross that was handled by
Alec McClean and flicked over to Geschwind to make it a 2-0 match.
But Johns Hopkins (5-2-1, CC 1-1) stormed back and evened the score by getting consecutive goals from Samy Ramadane less than three minutes apart. After beginning the Blue Jay rally with a marker on a penalty kick in the 61st minute, Ramadane stole an attempted pass at the top of the box and rifled the ball past junior goalkeeper
Tyler Zon into the bottom right corner of the net to eventually force overtime.
In the extra session, Johns Hopkins completed the comeback by netting the golden goal on a direct kick from just outside the box. Kotaro Mitsuhashi bent the ball around the Garnet wall and past a diving Zon to the far right corner of the goal to give the Blue Jays the win.
Goalkeeper Matt Paris of Johns Hopkins made three saves to pick up the victory, while Zon turned away four shots in the setback for the Garnet.
Swarthmore will remain on the road to face Muhlenberg, which is currently ranked 21st nationally by the NSCAA, on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
