Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Freshman
Sarah Wallace led the Swarthmore College volleyball team to victories over Wilkes University (3-5) and Cabrini College (6-5) on Saturday afternoon from Tarble Pavilion. Hosting the 11th Annual Garnet Classic, Swarthmore improved to 4-2 on the young season with the home-opening wins. Cabrini defeated Wilkes in straight sets in the other match on the day.Â
In the opening match, the Garnet won in straight sets

Malia Scott anchored the passing game with 16 and 12 assists, respectively. Freshman
Bridget Scott came down with two solo blocks and one block assist. Wallace strengthened the attack with 14 kills, while senior
Chastity Hopkins swung nine kills and two block assists.Â
The first set opened close until freshman
Olivia Leventhal swung three straight kills to put the Garnet ahead 10-5 - a lead differental the home team would keep the remainder of the set.
Bridget Scott recorded back-to-back points later in the set on a kill and block assist with classmate
Alice Liu to give Swarthmore a 20-13 lead en route to a 25-18 set win. On Wallace's opening service, the Garnet took an early 5-0 lead to start the second set; junior
Anastasia White-Torruellas contributed a kill and block assist in the run. The Garnet continued to build on the lead with a six-point run later in the set as Wallace swung four straight kills during a strong service from
Malia Scott. In the closing set, Hopkins and Leventhal lead the Garnet attack, while the defense limited the Lady Colonels to just 12 points.Â
In the final match of the day, Swarthmore needed four sets to defeat Cabrini (25-19, 21-25, 25-15, 25-22) in a much more competitive match. Heppe,
Malia Scott and senior
Kate Amodei secured the defense as all recorded double-digit kills; Heppe lead the trio with 19. Wallace swung 14 kills and Leventhal had 10 in the victory, while DuBois set the offense with 32 assists.Â
Swarthmore opened strong, building to a 12-4 lead after some Cavaliers' miscues and block assists from Bridgett Scott and Wallace. Cabrini felt the pressure and slowly climbed back. Down 20-10, the Cavaliers went on a five-point run to force a Garnet timeout. Swarthmore regained momentum to close out the set with three straight kills from freshmen. The second set was closely matched as the score deficit stayed under three until the final point by Cabrini. In set three and tied at 9, Swarthmore began an eight-point swing during
Malia Scott's service; Wallace recorded two kills to lead the run. Setting the tone, the Garnet fueled to a 25-15 set victory to take a 2-1 lead. Wallace and White-Torruellas led the fourth and final set with a combined six kills.Â
Next up, Swarthmore will host Widener University on Tuesday, September 13th at 7:00 p.m. from Tarble Pavilion.Â
