GREENWOOD, Ind. –
Melissa Eyer and
Keira Miles of the Swarthmore College volleyball team were chosen to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday. It is the first career selection for both student-athletes.
To be eligible for Academic All-District accolades, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, appear in 90 percent of their team's contests or start in at least 66 percent, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better. The Academic All-District Team is part of the Academic All-America program, which is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across college sports.
Eyer received All-America honorable mention, becoming the fifth individual in program history to earn All-America accolades. Eyer ranked third in the region in digs per set (4.91) and fourth in total digs (516) and was chosen to the All-Region First Team. She was tabbed the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Miles garnered All-Centennial honorable mention after producing 250 kills (2.40 per set) and leading the squad with a .262 hitting percentage. She also recorded six aces, five assists, 69 digs, and 44 blocks, ranking second on the team in blocks. Miles had 12 double-digit performances in kills with a season-high 16 at Muhlenberg College.
The Garnet went 17-12 and qualified for the Centennial Conference Tournament.
