PHILADELPHIA – Swarthmore College's Melissa Eyer was named to the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Volleyball Team for the first time on Thursday.
 
Voted on by local athletic communications offices, the honor recognized seven of the top student-athletes across all divisions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA.
 
Eyer was joined on the squad by student-athletes from Widener University, Gwynedd Mercy University, Villanova University, Holy Family University, and Eastern University.
 
Eyer received All-America honorable mention from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) after a standout sophomore campaign. She is the fifth individual in program history to earn All-America accolades. Eyer ranked third in the region in digs per set (4.91) and fourth in total digs (516) and was chosen to the All-Region First Team. She was previously tabbed the 2024 AVCA Region V Freshman of the Year.
 
Eyer was selected the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the second season in a row after leading the conference in both digs per set and total digs. A two-time All-Centennial First Team honoree, she is the fifth player in program history to record 500-plus digs in a single season. Eyer was named to the Academic All-Centennial Team and the Centennial Honor Roll this year.
