SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College volleyball program has announced the addition of
Melinda Eglinton as its full-time assistant coach. Eglinton joins interim head coach
Cecily Scavicchio and long-time associate head coach
Linda Zhang on the Garnet staff.
Eglinton played three seasons under Scavicchio at Ursinus College, serving as a team captain in each of those years. The middle hitter started every match during her career with the Bears, logging a team-high in kills as a senior.
"We are thrilled to welcome Melinda to the Swarthmore Volleyball family," said Scavicchio. "Our search committee was incredibly impressed by Melinda's professionalism, thoughtful approach, and passion for coaching. She distinguished herself with her knowledge of the student-athlete experience and her clear commitment to building meaningful relationships while pursuing competitive excellence."
A Norristown native, Eglinton graduated from Ursinus with a bachelors in business economics. She was an active member of the athletics community, serving as a member of the Ursinus Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and a representative at the Snell-Shillingford Leadership Symposium. Eglinton was a recipient of the UC Achievement Award, named CSC Academic All-District and a member of the Whitian and the Cub & Key Societies.
Eglinton has served as a coach at Club Integrity Volleyball since 2022. She has also worked as a social media marketing intern for the Lancaster Stormers and a content creator for Ursinus College.
"As a recent Centennial Conference student-athlete standout, she understands what it takes to be successful in this conference and will bring valuable insight to our program," said Scavicchio. "Her positive energy, competitive mindset, and drive to help our student-athletes reach their potential will elevate the level of play in Tarble Pavilion, and we're excited to see the impact she'll make both on and off the court."
The Garnet open the 2026 season against Eastern University on September 1 at Tarble Pavilion. Swarthmore finished 17-12 overall and 7-3 in Centennial Conference play last season.
