FULL RESULTSSWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomore Katie McMenamin facored into three-runner-up performances to lead the Swarthmore College women's track & field team to a third-place finish at the Centennial Conference Championships on Sunday, May 4. The Garnet, who were hosting the meet for the first time since 2010, registered 104 points.
Johns Hopkins cruised to its fifth straight title by racking up 225.50 points. Dickinson was a distant second with 126.50 points, while Swarthmore was third with 104 points. Ursinus (76), Gettysburg (67.50), Muhlenberg (65), Haverford (57.50), Franklin & Marshall (41), McDaniel (28) and Bryn Mawr (25) completed the field.
After anchoring the winning 4x800-meter relay yesterday, McMenamin finished second in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs with times of 2:17.30 and 4:36.16, respectively, on the final afternoon of competition to pace the Garnet. She concluded the meet by running a leg for the second-place 4x400-meter relay team that hit the tape in 4:02.01.The group also consisted of junior
Julia Nee as the anchor along with sophomores
Katie Lin and
Sarah Nielsen.
Nee finished the day with a team-best four medal performances for the Garnet. In addition to racing in the 4x400, she also placed second in the 400-meter dash in 59.02 seconds, third in the 200 in 26.36 and ran a leg for the third-place 4x100 which navigated the track in 50.87. Lin as well as freshmen
Katherine Zavez and
Anise Charles completed the members of 4x100.
Junior
Osazenoriuwa Ebose and Nielsen rounded out the list of top-three finishes for the Garnet on the final day. Ebose placed second in the shot put with a toss that sailed 43-feet, 6.50-inches and Nielsen was third in the 1,500 with a time of 4:36.35.
Swarthmore will host a final qualifier meet on Monday, May 12 at 4 p.m.
