DAY ONE RESULTS

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomore Shaina Lu and senior Emma Saarel each set personal records as the Swarthmore College women's outdoor track & field team ended the first day of the Centennial Conference Championships in a three-way tie for fourth place among 10 schools on Friday, May 2 at Clothier Field. The Garnet accumulated eight points.

Lu began the day by clearing 9-feet, 0.25-inches in the pole vault to place fourth overall in the first scoring event of the day. She bettered her previous personal-best mark of 8-6.25 which she recently set at the Lions' Invitational. Saarel concluded the Garnet's scoring for the day by registering a sixth-place time of 37:54.69, shattering her old best mark of 40:22 that she recorded at the league's championship meet three years ago. The senior's top mark also ranks fourth all-time in the program annals.

Senior Katie Lytle also represented the Garnet on the opening day in the heptathlon and stands in fourth place through four events with 1,466 points. She most notably recorded the second-best throw in the shot put with a toss that sailed 27-8.75.

Swarthmore, which is hosting the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the first time since 2010, will continue competing at the postseason meet tomorrow morning beginning at 9:30 a.m.
