Osazenoriuwa Ebose of the Swarthmore College women's outdoor track & field team was victorious in the shot put and recorded a runner-up finish in the discus throw at a final qualifying meet hosted by Salisbury on Friday, May 16 at the SU Track & Field Complex.
A junior from Scotch Plains, N.J., Ebose began the meet by recording a winning toss of 43-feet, 8-inches in the shot put. The winning mark bettered second-place finisher Emily Swenson of Johns Hopkins, who was the Centennial Conference champion in the event, by nearly a foot. Ebose then concluded the meet by placing second in the discus with a throw that sailed 134-8, which was eight inches shy of the first-place mark.
Select members of the Swarthmore College women's outdoor track & field team will now wait to see if they will have the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Delaware, Ohio from May 22-24 when the qualifiers are announced on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. EST. Sophomore Katie McMenamin is ranked 19th nationally in the 1,500-meter run and 26th in the 800, while Ebose is 27th in the shot put and 36th in the discus throw.
Sarah Nielsen, another sophomore, is 36th in the 1,500.
