Cole Fox making huge saves between the pipes and junior
Ian Lukaszewicz netting a hat trick to fuel a fourth-quarter comeback in Centennial Conference action on April 9. However, the spark would arrive a little to late as McDaniel held on for a 14-11 victory from Clothier Field.
Lukaszewicz rattled off two goals in nine seconds to ignite the Garnet to open the fourth quarter and recorded his 100th career point with 18 seconds remaining. Swarthmore (4-7, 1-3 CC) went 2-for-3 on the man-up advantage and six saves from Fox kept the Green Terror (5-7, 2-3 CC) attack at bay in the fourth.
Senior
Jonathan Molloy led the Garnet offense with three goals and two assists, while adding three ground balls. Freshman
Eric Levin picked up his first career goal in the middle of the second and added his second late in the period. Junior
Andrew Preiser earned four points with one goal and three assists.
Sophomore
Mike Selverian took 17 of 28 faceoffs for the Garnet, scooping up nine ground balls. Senior defender
Geli Carabases forced three Green Terror turnovers, recorded six ground balls and even added a point on the stat line with his fourth career assist in the fourth quarter.
Fox finished with eight saves in 30 minutes of action between the pipes. Senior
Jonathan Cohen took the loss, allowing 12 goals in the first half.
The Green Terror opened the game hot, rattling off six straight goals in 10 minutes en route to a 7-2 lead after one period. McDaniel added five more in the second to Swarthmore's three to take a 12-5 lead into the break. The Garnet closed out the game with a 21-13 shot advantage, 18-10 ground ball edge and took 8 of 10 faceoffs in the attempted comeback.
McDaniel was led by Pat Bivons with four goals and one assist and Timothy McNichol with two goals and two assists. Sean Brett, Zach Monzo and Ryan Weiss each netted twice in the win. Goalkeeper Eric Ritchie made 14 stops in the complete game effort.
Swarthmore will travel to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, April 12 for a 1:00 p.m. start.
