Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Despite getting a home run from senior Nicko Burnett, the Swarthmore College baseball team fell by a 10-4 decision to Ursinus on Friday, Apr. 25 at Thomas Field.

In a game that featured three lead changes, Swarthmore started the scoring in the top of the first when freshman Ryan Burnett came home on a wild pitch. After Ursinus pushed two runs across in the bottom of the same frame, the Garnet regained the lead by scoring twice in the third and once in the fourth. Nicko Burnett went yard after sophomore John Lim doubled to start the rally that put the visitors back ahead by a 3-2 score.

Ursinus (16-15, CC 7-9), however, used a five-run bottom of the fourth to break loose and never looked back. Senior Josh Schnell capped the scoring in the big inning with a two-run single to left. The Bears then added insurance runs in the sixth and eighth frames to ice the victory.

Alex Manachera a junior, picked up the victory for Ursinus and improved to 3-1 this spring by hurling 5.2 shutout frames of relief in which he allowed just two hits and recorded three strikeouts. Junior Luke Alventosa suffered the loss for Swarthmore after giving up nine hits and seven runs, which were all earned, in four innings of work. His record dropped to 3-3.

Swarthmore (17-16, CC 6-10) will play its final home games of the regular season when it hosts Franklin & Marshall for a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon beginning at 12:30 p.m.
