Men's Lacrosse Battles with No. 6 Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team fell 11-6 in Centennial Conference action to No. 6 Washington College on Wednesday evening. Juniors Andrew Preiser and Ian Lukaszewicz along with senior Jonathan Molloy combined for nine points in the effort.

Swarthmore (4-10, 1-5 CC) struck first at 13:43 – capitalizing on a Shoremen turnover – Lukaszewicz took a pass from freshman Eric Levin to record his 23rd goal on the season. The Garnet waited little time to score again as Molloy tallied his first goal in the game on a Lukaszewicz pass at 12:23. Washington College (12-1, 8-0 CC) cranked up the pressure and controled the ball over the next six minutes with eight shots – two on target – before finding the back of the net at 6:00 to finalize scoring.

With a Shoremen penalty at the end of the first frame, Swarthmore controlled the ball to open the second and capitalized on the advantage at 14:24 to take a 3-1 lead. Molloy recorded his 19th goal on the season on a pass from Lukaszewicz. The Shoremen outscored the Garnet 3-1 to finish out the half with the score knotted a 4-all.

In first half, Washington College had a 33-16 shot advantage and won all nine faceoffs, while the shot-on-goal total was 11 for each team.

The Shoremen came out of the break with momentum as Jim Cusick tallied two of his four goals in the game and Michael Trapp scored at 9:59 to give the home team a 7-4 lead. Swarthmore responded at 8:21 with Lukaszewicz's second of the game and the team's 18th man-up goal this season. The Shoremen added two more goals to own a 9-6 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.

Despite putting four of its five shots on target in the fourth, Swarthmore could not find the back of the net again. Washington College tallied twice more to cap conference regular season with an undefeated record.

The Shoremen finished the game with a 63-25 advantage in shots and a 45-21 advantage in ground balls.

Senior goalkeeper Jonathan Cohen made 14 stops between the pipes for the Garnet.

Swarthmore will conclude the season on Saturday, April 26 from Clothier Field against Haverford College. Prior to the game, the program will honor it's eleven graduating seniors.
