Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Three different players drove in a run and five recorded a hit to help lead Muhlenberg to a 3-0 win over the Swarthmore College baseball team on Friday, Apr. 18 at Cedarcreek Field.
Muhlenberg (14-13, CC 7-4) tallied one run in the first two frames, as senior John Scuderi hit an RBI single to right center that started the scoring before senior John Icaza doubled the margin on a single to center. The Mules then got insurance in the fourth when junior Danny Usewick tripled to score Johnson, who belted a two-bagger to begin the frame.
Swarthmore threatened to get on the board several times later in the game and had its best chance in the eighth with the bases loaded and only one out. But after
Scoop Ruxin singled to center, junior hurler David Anderson induced a flyout and forced freshman
Steven Matos-Torres to ground into a fielder's choice to end the inning.
Anderson of Muhlenberg picked up the win by pitching eight shutout frames in which he allowed eight hits. He also struck out four and did not issue a walk to improve his mark to 3-1. Junior Phillip Balseca earned his fourth save of the spring by blanking the visitors in the ninth. Garnet junior
Luke Alventosa suffered the loss and dropped to 3-2 after giving up six hits and three runs, which were all earned, while striking out five and issuing two walks.
Swarthmore (15-14, CC 4-8) hosts McDaniel for a twinbill tomorrow beginning at 12:30 p.m.
