Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Senior
Rose Pitkin hit a walkoff double to propel the Swarthmore College softball team to a thrilling 6-5 victory over Washington College (23-9, 10-4 CC) in eight innings to salvage the split on Wednesday, April 16 at Clothier Field. In the opener, the Shorewomen won by a 6-1 score. In the bottom of the eighth with two away, Pitkin doubled to center to score junior Chelsea Matzko to complete the comeback. Pitkin and freshman Anna Jensen each had three hits to lead the Garnet to it's first Centennial Conference victory of the season.
Down to its last out in the last of the seventh, Swarthmore
(9-18, 1-9 CC) scored four times to tie the game. Junior
Emma Madarasz scored on an error to cut the lead to 5-2 and Pitkin scored on a base hit up the middle off the bat of Jensen to cut the lead to 5-3. Freshman
Sara Planthaber scored on a bases loaded walk to junior
Laurie Sellars to reduce the lead to 5-4 before tying the game when
Nicole Aaron scored on a wild pitch. All four runs were unearned.
Washington College took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second when Graham and Mattox scored on a throwing error by the Garnet. The Shorewomen scored three times in the top of the fifth with two outs to take a 5-0 lead. Dockrill roped a two-run double to left-center before coming home on a base hit up the middle by junior shortstop Suzanne Patinella. The Garnet got on the board in the last of the fifth when Obstfeld scored on an error with two away to trim the lead to 5-1.

Melissa O'Connor got the win to go to 7-7 as she went the entire way. She gave up five runs, three earned on seven hits, walking two and fanning four. Madarasz, Matzko and freshman
Jackie Pezzato had two hits each in the nightcap as the Garnet had 13 in the game.
In the opener, the Shorewomen used a 12-hit game - including Caitlyn Kirby going 3-for-4 and Kelsey Graham's two hit and three RBI performance - to take a 6-1 victory. The visitors put up runs in each of the first three innings to take 5-0 lead.
Swarthmore got on board in the bottom of the fourth when Pezzato with one out singled up the middle to score Matzko to cut the lead to 5-1, but Graham's third RBI of the game and two double of the contest restored the five-run lead at 6-1 in the top half of the fifth to provide the final margin.
Sophomore Clara Obtsfeld had two hits for Swarthmore as the home team had six hits in game one. In the circle, senior Lowe took the loss to drop to 1-6 as she went three innings.
The Garnet return to action on Friday afternoon from Gettysburg College at 3:30 p.m.
