Zach Powell went 2-for-4 and belted an RBI single up the middle in the eighth to lift the Swarthmore College baseball team to a 4-3 victory over Muhlenberg on Wednesday, Apr. 16 at Clothier Field.
Muhlenberg (13-13, CC 6-4) scored two runs on three hits in the top of the first to quickly take control. After freshman John Icaza came home on a wild pitch, senior Nick Kennedy doubled the Mule lead with a single to center that plated senior Max Litvak.
Swarthmore, however, answered with three runs in the bottom half of the same inning and never trailed again. Senior

Wesley Fishburn each recorded a hit to drive in a run to give the Garnet a 3-2 edge.
The Mules tied the game in the fifth courtesy of a one-run double by junior Jimmy Cody, but Swarthmore was able to regain the lead for good when Powell singled in pinch runner Greg Cox. Freshman
Steven Matos-Torres doubled down the line in left to begin the key frame before senior
Matt Bertuch shut down the Mules in the ninth to allow the Garnet to escape with the conference win.
Sophomore
Nathan Booth, who pitched a scoreless eighth, picked up the victory for Swarthmore and improved to 2-1 on the season. Bertuch earned his second save after holding off the Mules in the ninth. Muhlenberg Junior Phillip Balseca suffered the loss and dropped to 1-2 after giving up one run on three hits in one inning of work.
Swarthmore (15-13, CC 4-6) visits Muhlenberg on Friday, Apr. 18 at 3:30 p.m.
