Box Score 2 WESTMINSTER, Md. – Sophomore
John Lim recorded a combined four hits and went yard for the first time of his career, but the Swarthmore College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Johns Hopkins on Saturday, Apr. 12 at McDaniel's Preston Field. The Blue Jays earned an 8-4 victory in the opener before escaping with a 5-3 triumph in the nightcap.
After Johns Hopkins went ahead by a 3-0 score through three frames in the opener, the Garnet climbed back into the game by scoring twice in the top of the fourth. Freshman
Ryan Burnett drew a leadoff walk and scored when Lim homered to left field on the next play.
The Blue Jays, however, quickly shook off the bomb by Lim and comeback effort by plating four runs in their half of the fourth to move ahead 7-2. Sophomore Raul Shah capped the scoring with an RBI double to left that sent home senior Jonathan Hettleman, who also hit a two-bagger of his own that pushed across a run earlier in the frame. Swarthmore came no closer than three runs the rest of the way.
Sophomore Carter Burns of Johns Hopkins a complete game and picked up the victory to move his record to 3-2. He registered 13 strikeouts while allowing four runs, including three earned, and six hits. Freshman
Brian Gibbs took the loss for Swarthmore and fell to 1-2 after giving up nine hits and seven runs, which were all earned, over five frames.
Johns Hopkins (16-9, CC 4-5), which is playing all of its home games away from campus while its current facility is going through a $4.2 million dollar reconstruction, began the nightcap with two runs in the bottom of the first and never trailed. Swarthmore tied the game in the fourth by getting RBI hits from junior
Scoop Ruxin and freshman
Wesley Fishburn, but the hosts answered with one run in the sixth and two runs in eighth.

Zach Powell drew a bases-loaded walk to score senior
Nicko Burnett with one out. Junior reliever Thomas Harper, however, fanned
Cody Ruben to end the game.
Junior Jacob Enterlin earned the victory for Johns Hopkins and improved to 3-2 on the season. He gave up six hits and three runs that were all unearned while striking out five and not issuing a walk in eight innings of work. Harper earned his third save by pitching a scoreless ninth. Senior
Matt Bertuch took the loss and fell to 4-3 by giving up five hits and three runs, which were all earned, in 3.2 innings.
Swarthmore (14-13, CC 3-7) hosts Muhlenberg on Wednesday, Apr. 16 at 3:30 p.m.
