Ian Lukaszewicz found the back of the net four times and senior
Jonathan Cohen made 14 saves in goal to propel the Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team to a 15-10 road victory over Vassar on Saturday, March 8 at Weinberg Field.
Swarthmore, which led from wire-to-wire, scored the only goal of the first quarter on a
Dane Fichter strike and started to gain control by netting three straight in the second. Senior
Jonathan Molloy keyed the run by scoring at 12:19 and then setting up Lukaszewicz with 9:58 on the clock to give the Garnet a 5-1 lead.
Vassar (1-2) closed the gap to two by scoring twice in the opening 32 seconds of the second half to make in 7-5, but the Garnet ended the third quarter with seven unanswered goals to burst to a comfortable nine-goal advantage. Swarthmore found the back of the net three times while playing a man up and also saw freshman
Tyler Alexander net his first career goal to cap the run and provide insurance for the Garnet's first win of the 2014 campaign.
In addition to Lukaszewicz and Cohen, the Garnet also got strong contributions from Molloy and senior
Mike Selverian. Molloy registered a game-high six points on three goals and three assists, while Selverian won 12 of his 20 face-off attempts.
Swarthmore (1-2) will begin a three-game homestand when it hosts Roger Williams on Wednesday, March 12 at 7 p.m.
