SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior
Nick Constantino hit a leadoff single in the ninth and scored later in the frame on a walkoff play to lift the Swarthmore College baseball team to a 6-5 victory over Maine Presque Isle on Monday, March 31 at Clothier Field.
Swarthmore, which won its third straight game overall and second in a row in walkoff fashion, took advantage of an unprecedented four Owl errors to score twice in the bottom of the first. Four consecutive defensive miscues allowed senior

Maine Presque Isle (0-9), however, sent eight batters to the plate in the third and scored four times in the third to go up 4-2. Senior Cam Morrell hit a bases-clearing double and advanced to third on the throw home to put the Owls ahead before scoring on an Adam Begos single.
Despite surrendering the lead, the Garnet responded with two runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the fourth to regain the lead. Junior
Brian Kaissi, who singled and advanced to second on another Owl error, scored the go-ahead run on a groundout to short by classmate
Zach Powell.
After the Owls scored tied the game in the top of the ninth, Swarthmore took advantage of the Owls' eighth error of the game to win in walkoff fashion. Constantino found a hole through the right side and advanced to second on a bunt single by
Nicko Burnett before eventually coming home on a throwing error by senior pitcher Jordan Berry to his first baseman.
Matt Bertuch was credited with the victory for Swarthmore and improved to 3-2 after striking out two and allowing one hit. The senior, who entered the game with runners at second and third and no outs in the ninth, also tagged Justin Bergeron for the second out on a 915261 rundown play to keep the game tied before getting out of the jam by fanning Begos to end the inning. Perry went the distance and dropped to 0-3 with the loss. He gave up nine hits and six runs, including three earned, while striking out four and issuing two walks.
Swarthmore (11-5) opens up Centennial Conference play on the road against Haverford tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
